What are the advantages and disadvantages of cold forging?

Advantages of cold forging:

(1) forging material is not easy to produce oxide skin, and the surface finish is good.
(2) The precision of forging size is better.
(3) In the process of processing will produce work hardening (strain hardening), which can increase the strength and hardness.
(4) can make the metal fiber flow direction of forging to obtain a specific direction.
(5) No heating is needed to minimize the pollution problem.
(6) No heating costs, reducing production costs.

Shortcomings of cold forging:

(1) The plasticity and toughness of forging materials are reduced, which is unfavorable to the subsequent processing.
(2) The deformation force required is greater than that of hot forging.
(3) Residual stress will occur inside the material.
(4) The metal grain will be deformed or broken.
(5) The directivity in the process may not be conducive to the use of products in the future.
